Control Resonant's Metaphysical Space & Dylan's Psyche

Control Resonant travels beyond physical Manhattan into a mysterious metaphysical space representing Dylan Faden's troubled psyche.

Last reviewed July 18, 2026

Quick answer

Control Resonant includes a mysterious metaphysical space beyond the material world that represents Dylan Faden’s troubled psyche. The Gap is the named dreamlike build space tied to his mind, but official wording does not yet prove that every metaphysical sequence is the same location.

What is confirmed

Steam’s official description says players travel beyond the material world into a space representing Dylan’s psyche. Separately, Remedy describes The Gap as a dreamlike place players enter outside combat to shape their build and craft Artifacts.

Is the metaphysical space a map zone?

Its complete structure is unknown. It may include progression menus, narrative sequences, traversal or other encounters, but those functions should not be merged without evidence. Manhattan zones are physical handcrafted areas; the metaphysical space is explicitly framed as beyond that material world.

Why Dylan’s psyche matters

Dylan spent years confined by the FBC, was possessed by the Hiss and later remained in a coma trapped inside his mind. Making his inner state explorable connects character history to mechanics and environments rather than leaving it only in dialogue.

What pages can be created later

Verified sublocations should receive pages only if they have stable names, distinct navigation, objectives or collectibles. Visual variants of the same menu space should not become separate URLs.

Read The Gap build system for confirmed mechanics and Dylan Faden for the history shaping this space.

Guides & Gameplay FAQ

Do I need to play the first Control?

No. Remedy presents Control Resonant as a standalone story and a new entry point centered on Dylan Faden. Playing Control provides more context for Jesse, Dylan, the FBC, and the Oldest House, but it is not required.
