Quick answer
Barrage is a ranged supernatural ability that pulls rocks from the ground and launches them at enemies. In the opening media demo, it was one of three permanent choices awarded after the first shown Resonant Entity, alongside Seekers and Shield.
How Barrage is obtained
Control Resonant ties major Combat Abilities to Resonant bosses. After the previewed first boss, the player selected one of three powers. Barrage represented direct ranged offense; Seekers offered an autonomous summon that could also be thrown as an explosive; Shield provided defense and an offensive dash.
The first-playthrough choice is meaningful because the alternatives from a boss are described as exclusive at that stage. New Game Plus later permits multiple different abilities from the same boss to be equipped, creating combinations unavailable on the first run.
Combat role
Barrage addresses distance without turning the Aberrant into a gun. Its published behavior is direct: draw rocks upward and fire them at range. Exact projectile count, damage, targeting, elemental properties and upgrade branches are not public, so pre-release footage should not be converted into a finalized build calculator.
Like other Combat Abilities, Barrage uses the ability resource. Melee hits restore that resource, abilities help stun enemies, and executions temporarily raise melee damage. Barrage therefore sits inside a cycle that expects the player to return to Aberrant attacks rather than remain a pure ranged caster indefinitely.
Choosing it over Shield or Seekers
Barrage is the clearest choice for immediate player-directed range. Shield changes defense and movement, while Seekers create pressure through a summon. That comparison identifies roles; it does not prove which option is strongest after upgrades.
Read the Shield ability guide and Seekers guide before deciding how the three differ. The boss power-choice page explains why the decision matters across a first run and New Game Plus.
