The 3 Pillars of Control Resonant Buildcrafting

Control Resonant builds combine Combat Abilities, Aberrant Weapon Forms and Talents. Learn what each pillar controls and how the Gap connects them.

Last reviewed July 25, 2026

Quick answer

A CONTROL Resonant build has three central pillars: supernatural Combat Abilities, Aberrant Weapon Forms and passive Talents. Dylan manages these systems in the Gap while outside combat.

Pillar one: Combat Abilities

Major Resonant bosses award supernatural powers, sometimes through branching permanent choices. Barrage, Seekers and Shield are three shown examples. Dylan eventually equips three Combat Abilities, expanding active offense, defense, summons and control.

Pillar two: Weapon Forms

The Aberrant uses a Primary Form, Secondary Form and Combo Ender. Named forms occupy different speed, range and target roles, and individual form trees add alternate specializations and modifier effects.

Pillar three: Talents

Talents provide passive modifiers and synergy, including branches concerned with status effects. Exclusive choices mean the first playthrough cannot reveal every passive path.

How they work together

The pillars meet in combat. Melee restores ability resource; abilities can stun; executions temporarily strengthen melee. A Talent can then reinforce a chosen interaction rather than acting as an unrelated bonus. The Gap is the interface and story space where those choices are shaped, not a fourth damage system.

Use the Gap guide for access and fiction, the weapon-tree page for form progression and the Talent branch guide for exclusivity. The launch build will supply exact nodes and numbers; this structure is already confirmed and is the correct framework for organizing them.

Guides & Gameplay FAQ

Do I need to play the first Control?

No. Remedy presents Control Resonant as a standalone story and a new entry point centered on Dylan Faden. Playing Control provides more context for Jesse, Dylan, the FBC, and the Oldest House, but it is not required.

What genre is Control Resonant?

Control Resonant is a single-player action RPG with melee-led combat, paranatural abilities, buildcrafting, and exploration. It is not simply a repeat of the first game’s third-person shooter structure.

What are Instinct powers?

Instinct is the name used for Dylan’s paranatural ability system. These powers combine with movement and Aberrant attacks to shape how a build controls space, survives pressure, or damages enemies.
