Control Resonant Talent Choices & Permanent Branches

Control Resonant talent trees include exclusive choices that limit one-playthrough unlocks. Understand the confirmed consequence and New Game Plus context.

Last reviewed July 25, 2026

Quick answer

Talent trees in CONTROL Resonant contain exclusive choices, so a first playthrough cannot reveal every passive option. Talents are designed around synergies—including status effects—rather than only flat upgrades.

Why the choice matters

The official combat presentation separates Talents from Aberrant weapon forms and supernatural Combat Abilities. Talents provide passive modifiers that support the way those active systems interact. A branch can therefore influence an entire build instead of merely adding an isolated stat.

Xbox Wire reports that exclusive talent choices restrict what can be seen in one run. That makes a branch decision meaningful, but the published material does not provide a respec policy, final tree layout, currency costs or a list of every status effect. A pre-release page should explain the decision model without pretending those missing rules are known.

How to approach the first run

Start with a combat role: close-range pressure, direct ability damage, defense, crowd control or summons. Then use talents that reinforce that role and its resource loop. Avoid choosing a passive solely because it appears numerically large in preview footage; retail balance and wording can change.

The broader Talents guide tracks the system and New Game Plus additions. The three buildcrafting pillars shows how Talents sit beside weapon forms and boss-earned abilities. For the other permanent decision layer, read Resonant boss ability choices.

Guides & Gameplay FAQ

Do I need to play the first Control?

No. Remedy presents Control Resonant as a standalone story and a new entry point centered on Dylan Faden. Playing Control provides more context for Jesse, Dylan, the FBC, and the Oldest House, but it is not required.
